Multicore processing in RiskyProject

How does RiskyProject uses different computer cores? What calculation are done in parallel and what not?

RiskyProject uses multi-core processing to calculate the iterations of the project schedules. While it does not use all the cores, it will use as many as the operating system allows it. For example, if you had a dual quad core system, typically you will see that RiskyProject will use all cores when calculating the iterations. However, once all of the iterations are calculated, the simulation results where all of the results of the iterations are used to summarize the results of statistical analysis can only be performed by a single processor.

Intaver recently analyzed RiskyProject performance for different number of processing cores. If RiskyProject performance for one processing core is A, performance for 2 cores will be 1.2A, for 4 processing cores will be 1.8A. When you check CPU usage in Task Manager in Windows during RiskyProject Monte Carlo simulations, you will see that not all processing power is utilized. It is because not all processes in RiskyProject can be done in parallel. However most time consuming calculation, such as CPM calculation for each iteration can be done in parallel.
