Compatibility and sharing files between versions causing issues

Post by katto1 »

Our organization has many copies of RiskyProject but depending upon when they were purchased there are different versions. What we have found is that we unable to share files between different versions. Why is this and is there compatibility workaround?

RiskyProject versions are always backwards compatible, but they are not forwards compatible. In practical terms what does this mean. You can open files from older versions, in newer versions (backwards compatibility); however, because the new versions are not just an update, but are new software with additional data structures, files created in the newer version cannot be opened in older versions (forwards compatibility).

The easiest method to manage this issue if files are being share across users and groups, is to ensure all users have the same version. New versions are included with the support and maintenance as long as this renewed annually after the first year expires.

Alternatively, if that is not possible and we recognize that in some organizations there is no central management of the licenses/versions it is possible to export an xml file and import into an older version. If the file structure remains the same, you can then use the Import Risks from Another Project function to transfer all risks and risk assignments. This would also require re-entering uncertainties for Low and High Duration/Costs.
