New article: Project Risk Analysis for Information Systems

Intaver Institute published new article “Project Risk Analysis for Information Systems“. Development and operation of information systems has significant risks and uncertainties. To minimize the impact and reduce the probability of such risks organizations involved in development of information systems applied project risk analysis and risk management processes. The paper describes how the project risk analysis process is tailored for information system projects. It expands the scope of traditional project risk analysis by utilizing an enterprise risk register. Risks are assigned to different projects within a portfolio, and to different tasks within projects. Quantitative risk analysis using Monte Carlo simulations helps to determine risk adjusted project schedules, rank risks within risk register, and determine efficiency of risk mitigation and response efforts. The process was applied as part of the project management of multiple information system projects worldwide.

New Webinar: Risk Mitigation Planning and Scenario Analysis

Intaver Institute announced new webinar “Risk Mitigation Planning and Scenario Analysis”. The webinar will be held on Tuesday April 7, 2020, 10 am – 11 am MDT. Risk analysis will not only tell us how critical are certain risks, but also what is the most effective way to minimize the impact of these risks on your project. Some mitigation plans can cost more than others and significantly increase duration of the project. One of the way to determine efficiency of mitigation plans is perform risk analysis with multiple scenarios. Scenario analysis is useful for selecting optimal project strategies. In this webinar, you will learn how to:

  • Create risk handling scenarios using baselines
  • Compare scenarios impacts on project cost and schedule
  • Analyze mitigation plan using multiple scenarios
  • View a risk score across multiple baselines

New Webinar: Cost Risk Analysis

Intaver Institute announced new webinar: Cost Risk Analysis. The webinar will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Time: 10 am – 11 am MDT. Cost risk analysis is the companion to schedule risk analysis, but it is often not integrated with the schedule risk analysis. Project cost is uncertain: it is affected by events and uncertainties. To keep a project on budget, it is important to create risk adjusted project budget. It is also critical to perform cost control with risks and uncertainties when project progresses. In this webinar we will show how to:

  • Perform a simple cost risk analysis
  • Perform cost analysis using schedule risks and uncertainties
  • Perform cost analysis using resource risks
  • Analyze project cash flow
  • Perform project cost tracking with risks and uncertainties
  • Apply Earned Value Method (EVM) to control cost with risks and uncertainties

Risk Analysis of Linear Projects

In linear projects activities are associated with certain locations. They are usually construction projects, such as building and roads where each activities have location attributes in addition to duration, start and finish times, cost, resources and other attributes of traditional project schedules. Time location charts are a way of visualizing project schedules with linear locations on the horizontal axis, and dates on the vertical axis.

Time location charts could be presented for original project schedule and risks-adjusted project schedule. Risk adjusted project schedule is a result of project risk analysis. Comparing risk adjusted project schedule and original project schedule helps to determine how risks would affect your project.

Results of project risk analysis performed in RiskyProject can be presented using Turbo-Chart software by Linear Project Software. Please review our presentation how integrated RiskyProject – Turbo-Chart solution would help to analyze and visualize your linear schedule.

New Webinar: How to Perform Risk Analysis on Agile Projects

Intaver Institute announced new webinar “How to perform risk analysis on Agile projects”. Agile is the most popular management process in different industries including development and delivery of software systems. This popularity is due to Agile’s ability to effectively manage the risks and uncertainties that are inherent in delivering complex projects. However, managers still need to provide estimates for cost and schedule to deliver system capabilities that account for risk and uncertainties. Ownership and management groups require these estimates as the basis of investment decisions and contract management. In this webinar, we will show how conventional quantitative project risk analysis on schedule and cost can be adapted to the Agile methodology to improve estimates and avoid either overruns or under delivery of system capabilities.

New Article: Portfolio Risk Analysis

Intaver Institute published new article “Portfolio Risk Analysis”. Projects can part of a larger portfolio in which projects are strategically selected and managed. Project portfolios can share common risks, mitigation and response plans, and resources. Conversely, these same projects exposure to these same risks can vary and have different scores for the same risks. One the key goals of project portfolio management is to align and prioritize projects based upon the organizations objectives. Part of this process takes place using an enterprise risk register that contains all the risks the organization faces. Risks from this risk register can be assigned to different projects, and in turn, to each projects tasks and resources. Click here to download the paper in PDF format.
